Devil's Post Pile Campground
Campground Description: Devil's Post Pile Campground is owned and operated by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). Devil's Post Campground is one of 9 BLM campgrounds located along the Crooked River, just west of Prineville Reservoir. All 9 campgrounds are located within a 6 mile stretch of State Highway 27. The names of the 9 campgrounds starting at the northern most campground are Castle Rock, Still Water (also referred to as Stillwater), Chimney Rock, Lone Pine, Devil's Post Pile, Poison Butte, Cobble Rock, Lower Palisades and Big Bend. All are considered to be in the Bend area and Prineville area. In general, all 9 camping facilities are quite similar in terms of environment and facilities offered. All campgrounds will accommodate both tent camping and RV camping. The surrounding environment is quite arid with lots of juniper scrub brush and occasional lodge pole pine trees. All are situated on the shores of the Crooked River. Roughly 8 miles south of Prineville the Crooked River offers class IV to V kayaking and rafting during spring runoffs. All 9 campgrounds are open from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Shopping and restaurants are available in Prineville area and the Bend area.

Directions: From Prineville Oregon drive 18 miles south on Oregon Highway 27
Fishing: The Crooked River is open to angling year round, with catch and release for trout and restricted to artificial flies and lures January 1 - April 21 and November1 - December 31. The Crooked River is closed to fishing for 150 feet downstream from Bowman Dam. Fish for trout with light tackle.
Astronomy Opportunities: The skies are quite dark but the horizon is limited by steep hills to the east and west
